Subject: Drivetrain noisy IP: Logged
Message: I've got a 45RFE transmission in a 2000 Jeep GC Limited with QuadraTrac II and open differentials. We've been getting a lot of snow and I was driving in icy/snowy conditions when my drivetrain made some loud ugly noises accompanied with harsh vibrations. It only happened twice on the same day within about an hour. Anyway, my drivetrain is very loud or noisy ever since then. It has a whining sound coming from the transmission or NV247 transfer case. My transmission seems to operate normally only it's noisy. Especially above 55 mph. If I let off the accelerator it quiets down except if the TC is locked, then I get a little noise until it unlocks.
I bought the vehicle used at 27,000 miles and I think the dealer changed the tranny fluid at that time. I changed the fluid this summer with about 31,000 miles because I was going to synthetics on some fluids but, I refilled the tranny with Valvoline ATF+3. Has anyone encountered a similiar problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Message: Sounds like your T-case is getting ready to grenade.
Talk to people who've had their T-Case explode. They describe the same symptoms. I'd get it in before a $500.00 problem becomes a $3000.00 one.
