96 was 1st year for OBDII computers/emissions, and they are more of a hassle to upgrade. Also, in '96 the trannys became more electronic with the adaptation of electronic governors. Yeeeech! 92-95 are much easier to mess with and have less electronic goop to act up.

'92-'93 5.2's had exhaust manifolds with 1/4" larger inside diameter. Mopar Performance computer adds 25hp. I had a '92 5.2 RC with the original engine/trans/rear at 217K miles.

92's and early 93's had the larger exhaust. A late '93 may not have them. It was one of those transition things.

Great trucks, awesome power to weight ratio. The '92/'93 manifolds are great. However, Hooker does make some long tube headers that work really well.

The larger exhausts have casting numbers 53006618 and 53006819 on them. No, for ultimate power, ya gotta go with headers, but if I could snag some '92's for a decent price I would run them for a long while and headers wouldn't be so important. As it is, I'm running later model stockers for now 'cause it's what I got.
