I never bothered with the extended warrantee, my Dak doesn't see enought regular abuse or use I'm a lucky one it's just my toy, However my wife's 5.9 cherokee is another issue. I have been a regular wrench on it since the warrantee ran out. First the power steering pump. then intake leaks(one at the back of the manifold, then one at the thermostat)and I actually caught a break with the transmission, while installing a shift kit, I noiced that the plate was cracked in the valve body, and swapped it out for a used one from a tranny shop for $100 . Now its time for the exhaust to be done.

I'm a Dodge man, but I'm a sucker for punishment also. If you like your trucks to be a little rough around the edges with plenty of power and styling that's like no other make or model then get a Dakota.

A very good alternative is the Tundra. It has more horse power than a Dakota, gets better gas mileage, is much more reliable, and looks as good as any other truck out there. But, it also cost about 3K more than an equivilent Dakota. So, buy a $22,000.00 Dakota and spend $2,000.00 for an extended waranty or buy a $25,000.00 Tundra and drive the hell out of it.

I've raced my 4.7L RC Dak against the 4.7L Tundra X-cab and I barely beat him. I could do no better than a fender and that was off the line. Had I not got the hole shot he would have beat me.
