Subject: coolant drain valve IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 Dakota 5.9 and I am going to change the enginge coolant. The one thing I have noticed that the radiator drain plug is a real pain to get to. I have located the engine drain bolt(plug) on the passenger side of the engine block but when I remove the bolt it makes a big mess. So I am wondering if anyone has changed this bolt to a valve that can be opened easly? I wonder if you can modify the Fram engine oil drain valve to fit? How would this hold up to this use? Any thoughts or opinions on this matter would be great

Message: The radiator drain has a small nipple on the bottom where you can attatch a hose.. I usually just put on about a 4" piece so that it runs in the bucket without making a huge mess.
You can also pull the lower splash shield under the radiator (5 or 6 black push pins and it comes right out). That makes it a much easier / cleaner job.
