Hey C-NOTE fill the truck with six quarts then START it up and let it run for 10 seconds. YOu have to fill the filter and passages first.

Justin, thats a very good point. I always put a little oil in my new filter before I put it on. Plus, since my previous oil change with 5 quarts, which was at least a 1000 miles ago, dip stick and oil pressure still say that its full. Maybe I just got the conservative engine. It still runs like a beast.

It's kind of difficult to prefill the oil filter in the Dakota since it sets at about a 45 degree angle. How do you do this and not spill half the oil out of the filter?

It's always bugged the hell out of me that I can't prefill my oil filter on my Dak. Chevy put their oil filter in a verticle possition near the bell housing so that it is easily accessed and you can prefill it. What was Dodge thinking?

Yes, you can prefill (sorta)

I don't know how you guys spin on a filter, but you can prefill the filter.
As noted the filter is at an angle, but if you fill it to about 3/4" from the top, hold it straight up until you meet the threads then tilt and spin, only about a teaspoon of oil drips out.
Easily wiped by a rag.

I guess you could do that. I'm picky about oil running down the side of my engine and dripping all over everything. I even drive a screwdriver through the old filter so I can drain it before unscrewing it.
