Message: I have just ordered my dakota through the dealership, nowhere was there one with all the options I wanted. I ordered a 2002 QC, lsd, 3.92, auto 4.7. I see all these posts comparing the 4.7 to the 5.9. Obviously the 5.9 is somewhat faster. I opted for the 4.7 to help a little on mpg. I hear a lot of smack talked on the 4.7. It doesn't have enough torque, this and that. Regardless of its comparison to the 5.9, isn't still a good engine? Also, the 2002's come with a mutlispeed trans instead of the 4 speed used on the 5.9, think this will help much? Any input would be appreciated, I can't wait for this truck to be shipped!

Message: I ordered mine 3 weeks ago. I had the same problem as you. I couldn't find one with the options I wanted. 02 QC, 4x4, 4.7, 5 speed and 3.92's. The sticking point for me was the 5 speed. If they put the NV4500 behind the 360 in the Dak, I might have gone that route. I've had a 360 though. They do eat gas. I think I'm going to like the 4.7. It's in it's 4th year so hopefully they've got the bugs worked out.

Message: I bought a 2002 Dakota Sport plus 4x4 CC, 4.7L auto towing package HD service group, 5900# GVW, 3.92's w/LSD, I'm lucky to get 250 miles to the tank, I don't care though, if I wanted good gas mileage I would have bought a geo.
Congrats you guys on the order, I ordered mine to, it took 4 weeks to the day. I also chose the overhead conv. group, leather wrap steering wheel, infinity stereo, (cd/cassette) 4 wheel ABS rear window defrost with power heated mirrors

Message: Geez - you guys must keep your foot in the gas! I get about 16 mpg with my 4.7 45RFE combination - it was 17 mpg before I changed the gear oil to the 140 weight synthetic DC recommends for towing. I got just over 20 mpg on straight highway driving - 70 mph...

Message: D.....
Dude, you've got to quit bumping the speed limiter every where you go. 230 miles per tank SUCKS! I get about 275-290, depending on my happy foot. That's with the 4.7 5-speed RC 3:92.. Hell my wife's Durango gets better mileage than that.

Message: The only way I can get 320+ out of my 4.7 is to dry on the highway with the cruise set and not see any hills. Any city/highway driving, 250 tops. Now with 32's, I am lucky to see 220 a tank.

Message: My CC, 4.7 5-speed with 3.92s has done a best of 21.89 mpg on a trip from LA to Phx. Had the cruise set at about 80 most of the time and managed to hit the speed limiter (115) on 2 occasions. I get 15-18 around town depending upon how much enjoyment my right foot gets.

Message: The only way I could get 320 miles out of a tank is if I strapped up to a geo metro and idled there! LOL! No its not quite that bad, I did get 280 once! I have an 01 quad 4x with the 4.7 and 3.55 lsd. Mine just tripped 4k so I'm hoping it will get better. It's so hard to stay out of the gas when that flowmaster rumbles soooo sweet!

Message: I have a 2002 QC 4.7L, 3.55, 4x2, LSD and get about 375 miles on a tank. Mostly city driving, but I'm not a "lead-foot" (never faster than 68mph, unless in a 65mph speed-zone, then about 73mph). I always drive about "post-speed + 8mph", if conditions allow.

Message: 375 sounds a bit high but i would love to see that on my truck however i usually get around 270 before the little light comes on and i still have about 30 miles left according the overhead consile but i have gone with it saying 0 for at least another 20 miles before. I am do have a heavy right foot but still manage to average about 17 mpg's. the most i ever got out of a tank is 320 going to Niagara falls but that was going about 80 - 90 the whole way

Reguarding your torque,I chose not to go the 5.9 because it's only rated 250lbs more towing acording to the dealership.
