Subject: Electrical/Tail Light Out IP: Logged
Message: 1994 Dodge Dakota
5.2 V8 4x4
Tail Lights and license tag light are not getting power.
Turn signal and brake lights work fine.
I do not have the original service manual and the Chiltons does not provide info on fuse block fuses.
If anyone has a manual and can let me know which fuse is for the tail lights?
I have checked all the fuses and non are blown, the bulb socket has a good ground, hence the tail light and turn signal work and I tested the ground in the socket via a volt meter.
Any other ideas would be helpful. I did trace the wiring back into the engine and have found no inline fuses. If it exists please direct where it could be found.
thanks,
doug

Message: do you have park lights in front? if no i,d guess the fuse.[i don,t have the manual]
on a 89 the fuse is at #5 and a 20 amp
you can test each one with a test light,
with the key on,ground the test light and go down each side of the fuse, there will be fire on both sides if the fuse is good[theres a small opening on each end on the fuse for testing]
good luck

Message: I have the same problem with my 98 Dakota. All lights work
except my rear running lights and my interior light won't turn on
when the drivers door is opened but works when the
passenger side is open. All fuses are fine and wires are good
the whole way up to the front of the cab. I've had no rear
running lights for months. Can't find the problem.

Message: Looking for related solution... I have a 1994 Dakota club cab, 2WD, 318, auto. I have all 4 blinkers working, hazzard warning flashers are working all 4 turn signals are working.
Only thing as far as I know not working are front and rear running lights and the instrument cluster (Speedometer, Tachometer, Alternator, Gas, Oil). (The lights for low gas, seat belts etc, are still working) Dome light is not on but don't know if it was working before.
Have checked all the fuses they are all good.
There had been an after market trailer wire harness spliced into the rear wiring and I removed all of it thinking that it may have been causing a short.

Message: You most likely have a bad ground for the brake lights Bryan. When the lights are off, the brake lights back feed through the other light circuit to ground.
