My friend has a 2000 dodge dakota r/t with a kenne bell super charger and it recently blew up. so he took it to a race shop and they rebeilt the engine with high performance pistons and modified heads. he now is having to run race gas half with pump gas to keep his truck from knocking. his knock sensor is still coming on every once in a while but the main reason im talking about this is because he is really having problems with the tensioners breaking off.He is only running 6-7 pounds of boost and it really gets up and goes but now he is having problems with it cutting out and all kinds of other problems. with trying to get more air into the engine by eliminating all of the 90 degree angles that restricts the flow.this supercharger is good but he is just having to many problems with it and he is about to sell the truck because he just got it back from the shop and it already has to go back. i was wondering if you had any suggesions on what he should do and if you heard of any other problems like this. if so and they are potentionally un fixable what super charger is best for the application and can work on pump gas because this race gas is really a hasel and exspensive. also when he blew up his stock engine the reson he got the kenne bell superchrger was because kenne bell said they would warante the engine if it blew but he called up kenne bell and he would pay for anything. i want to hear some in pute on what everyone thinks and there ideas so i could help my friend out so he doesnt sell his aggresive race ready truck truck.

You say, "aggresive race ready truck truck." What else has been done to it. Kenne Bell, to mostly cover their ass, tells people to leave their vehicles stock. Probably for these reasons. I've talked to several other 5.9 and 4.7 KB owners and they've never had another other problems other then some pings here and there. And that's usually from hard running in hot days or running a smaller (more boost) pulley.

"what super charger is best for the application and can work on pump gas because this race gas is really a hasel and exspensive."

He should just be needing to buy 91/93 oct, not racing gas. That shop didn't happen to put in a higher compression pistons, did they? Since he was having it rebuilt and having previous problems, he really should have looked at maybe using lower than stock compression.

Milled heads + same or higher comp pistons would be a good cause of this. That's my guess.

He did have lower compression pistons put in and im not positive but i think they are 8.5:1 . The shop he took it to said he had to run race gas to keep it from knocking but we tried it on primum pump gas and it only got to 5lb and we had to let off because it really started knockin so we had to put race gas in it. also we are thinkin of putting an intercooler on it and see if that will stop it so we dont have to add as much if not any race gas.

also it was completly stock when he put a full kenne bell kit on it including 3inch equast headers computer fuel pump and more that i probly frogot but every thing was recommended by kenne bell but they still wouldnt pay for anything and when the heads cracked is when he took it to a race shop to get a "blower engine" put in it hoping it would free up horse power and run better. really it was reliable stock but know he is having trouble with it running 8lbs. his truck goes to the shop monday to try and get fixed because of the cutting out problem when it gets to 3K rpms. hopefully it will run right when it comes back. also when ever we get on it and let off fast or do a donut the belt tensioner breakes and we are trying to find a better aftermarket one but had no luck so far.
thanks for your suggestions
matt
