Subject: 94 Dak 5.2 Noise?? IP: Logged
Message: I just bought a 94 5.2 with a 5 speed manual. It obviously has a bad throw-out bearing, but when driving it has a noise that I would describe as a roar that drowns out the engine. It seems to do it in all gears except 4th. A friend thinks it is still there in 4th but just much lower. He suggests maybe it is just the throw-out bearing. What do you think?

Message: Not to sound nasty but have you checked the fluid level and /or condition in the trans yet?

Message: fluid level is good, have not actually opened trany yet. Shifts great through all gears while driving. No chatter, or grinding while moving through the gears. Tranny feels good all gears are solid, the shifter feels crisp not sloppy going into each gear. The sound increases in intensity as the rpms increase, then vitually goes away when allowed to cost.

Message: Oh one more thing. Mechanic will be replacing throw-out bearing, clutch, and pilot bearing in about two weeks. I was just looking for some advice as to what else to check while in there.
Thanks,
Curtis

Message: Sounds like it could be the Universal Joints. When they go it starts to be noticeable in high torque conditions like in the lower gears when getting moving. When it gets really bad you won't want to set any land speed records.

Message: After discussion with a mechanic it is looking like I am going to need to rebuild my transmission. The prognosis is a bad input bearing, or bad cluster gear bearing. He says these Dodge 5 speeds are always loosing their input bearing. Anyone else with this problem?

Message: Removed the tranny on Monday, Pilot bearing in good condition, throw-out bearing is working properly, noise is in transmission... We will be tearing down the tranny and putting a rebuild kit in it on Friday. I will keep you posted.
