Subject: HO Cams / Headers going on IP: Logged
Message: Have an '01 4.7 CC auto. I have an exhaust and intake currently. Will be putting in my HO cams, and JBA headers shortly (cutting third cat too). With just those two mods what kind of gains do ya'll think I'll see?
I'll probably port/polish the TB at the same time too.
According to the Tazzo, and a FEW Gtechs - With fresh tires I can run 15.2's all day. How much faster in the 1/4?
I've got a feeling, but wanted to hear what ya'll have to say.

Message: I figure that combo should be good for at least 25rwhp maybe a bit more. Should get in high 14's.

Message: That's what I'm hoping for. I decided to do the headers, cams combo first - cheaper (Xmas and whatnot). Then I'm putting in some 4.10's later in the new year. I found a shop in Austin that will do it for like $250 labor - decent price I think.
Put on some new KYB Monomax's today - what a difference! I was riding on old stockers (was on some craptacular Ground Force shocks- they sucked while it was lowered.) Then I put it back to stock height,,but used the old shocks,,horrible ride,,and extremely NOISY. Put the KYB's on,,and it's like night and day.

Message: The HO cams have been dynoed at 13 more hp and 23 more ft/lbs. The headers are only supposed to flow 2% more than stock for the 4.7, less of a gain than on many other motors as the stockers work quite well. I think you'll still be in the 15s on a real track, but you'll see a gain on the Gtech and like the extra torque. You should pick up about 20 ft/lbs everywhere, not just at peak.

Message: midnightmagic - trust me, I have been shopping around. Seemed like awhile back I could find quite a few people who would do it for $200,,now the cheapest I can find is $250 - still pretty good - reputable shop too.
I'm hoping to break into the 14's. I know the G-techs and Tazzo aren't going to be right on,,but for day to day stuff they're pretty consistant. I'm right on the bumper of my friends Tbird and he runs 14.6's all day long and has time slips to prove it. I would like to think I'm faster than 15.2's,,but I'm being conservative till I'm sure.
I realize the stock manifolds flow quite well,,but I just got the headers at a really good price,,couldn't pass'm up! They should be here today,,and hopefully have them on mid week.

Message: Cool. If you can find a way to get it a little more spark advance it'll like that too. I've got 34 degrees with the Leach flash but I've never seen any numbers from what's available for the 2001 up 4.7s. Seemed like that woke the truck up as much as the cams.

Message: Ya,,,I wish there was some commercially available tuner for the '01+ 4.7's. Would be nice.
Just opened the box for my JBA headers,,,look nice. They're just the stainless ones,,,will still look cool though.

Message: Yeah wtf, this engine has been out for like 4 years now and still no hypertech/superchip tuner? I really don't understand, presumably these company's want our money so why not make them?

Message: Couldn't get the shop to do the cams - ended up going to Midas for the headers. They're in, no leaks.
Report:
The sound is about the same (running all stock cats to Flow40 dumped before axel = loud already) a bit more definition in the sound though = cool.
Power delivery is smoother across the board - I can honestly feel a difference - not huge, but it's there. The top-end is where you feel it the most. It used to hesitate before redline/shifting, but now pulls much harder, and no hesitation - climbs quickly.
So far I'm very happy with it,,and can't wait to get my cams in.
