Subject: towing mods? IP: Logged
Message: I've got a '97 5.2L 4x4 (3.92) that I use quite a bit for towing during the summer. I'm wondering if anyone here has got ideas for mods that are geared towards more torque? I've currently just got a plan to put in the 3292's, MSD 8.5mm wires, a 180 thermostat, and new intake. I'd like to get some nice sounds out of it too, but I'm worried that if I modify the exhaust I'll have problems with towing.
Thanks for any help!

The mods you suggested will make some difference, but not as much as you might think. If your engine is in good tune now, you may not notice any change at all.
Watch out for that low temp thermostat. In some computer controlled cars it will make it run worse. I tried it in my 2001 5.9. Ran a lot worse and got terrible fuel mileage.
Headers and open exhaust add torque and hp, but usually at the higher rpm ranges. Do the research and look at the torque curves before spending any money.
