Subject: Thumbing Noise While Driving IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1999 4x4 Dak. Ext. Cab with V8 engine. The past few days it started to rumble while I'm driving. Sounds like a tire out of balance but I checked them and they are fine. It starts out noticable then as I speed up it fades but is still there. I started to hear it after a snow storm and I used my 4wd. Any ideas of the problem?

Message: could have some ice build up inside the rim causing a slight out of balance. you may also have slightly worn ball joints. the tire being out of balance may be causing vibration that shakes the worn joints.
just a thought.
good luck!

Message: Thanks bman42, I'm going to pull the tires this weekend to see if there is anything noticable. I noticed this moring that the noise got louder when I turn a corner at slow speeds also. Do you think it could be the shocks because I have 88,000 miles on the truck?

Message: just throwing out my 2 cents. could also be shocks/mounts also. my old(old) first car had a chronic problem of getting mud or ice up inside the inside of the wheel and it would horribly throw out the balance. it would shake the crap out of stuff too.
good luck!

Message: I've had this happen before here in Wisconsin, and it was indeed ice buildup. The easiest way to take care of it is to run through an automated carwash. Not only will it melt the ice, but it'll clean your truck. Two for one! ;)
