Message: Well the same tranny's are called for in a lot of the Chevy's and Dakota's... All the same internals and most external features from the pics that I've seen off of ebay and other rebuild sites... Only real differences is that the external features and looks are changed minorly ://
I just wish that there was a good 6 speed offered stock in the Dakotas and maybe that new 7 speed auto offered in the bigger trucks as well that chrysler has now... Then most of us wouldn't ever have to worry about tranny problems...

Message: Regarding the reply from DAKULA, how would I attempt to tighten the bands? My truck also slips from 1st to 2nd? It is a 95/ 5.2/ 2wd

Message: To adjust your bands. all you have to do is pull the pan and filter. looking at the band itself, check the gap of the servo knub to the band. loosen the 7/8 nut that is on the side of the trans and slowly screw the adjustment bolt inward. Leave approx a pinky finger between the servo nub and the band. This should give you a hard 1-2 shift. also replace the fluid and filter with atf+4 the friction modifiers should also help.

Message: Here's a poser for you guys. I have a 1994 2wd, 3.9 with the AX15, no synchros left, and a beat shifter late. I'm looking at a rebuild, but this truck is basically a daily driver - nothing high performance.
Is it a big deal to convert this to a 904? There are plenty of them around, and I have a great driveshaft shop ($150 for a new , balanced shaft) nearby.
Your thoughts?
