Subject: TRU-DUAL or NOT... IP: Logged
Message: hey guys...i just happened to come across this site and maybe you folks can help...I own a 2000 reg.cab R/T and having installed a supercharger and NOS kit...question is...is it wise to leave Y-pipe and add headers and free-flow exhaust or can i go tru-dual with headers and 40series flowmasters out the back as i planned on doing...main objective:don't want to lose low-end torque...any help on this would be great as the R/T is getting worked on as I write...thanks..

Message: a single muffler with 2 pipes comming out of it should not hurt performance.

Message: Go for TRU-DUALS Bro! They will give you at least 35-40rwhp... These guys dont are not dodge technicians as myself and I can tell you a set-up like that on an R/T would be bad... They gave you no sound advice on what wrong with true duals? Run an x-pipe to get teh best scavenging even though some may not classify the use of a x-pipe as being true duals..

Message: For best performance you can run a single exhaust with larger piping coming off the headers or true duals. Running 2.5" true duals with an X pipe with mandrel bends will probably yeild the best performance.

Message: Hey Kevin "DUALS bro", my dad has has a '99 5.2L dakota with K&N intake, what would be his best bet on exhaust? I'd appreciate any help, he wants his done right as opposed to my truck which has a generic high-flow muffler...
Thanks

Message: For maximum performance, I'd tell your dad to pick up so free flowing mandrel bent headers and 3.5 piping to an x-pipe to allow for the best flow and scavenging. After the x-pipe, continue with 3.5 pipe to a high-flow muffler and exit with a SLIGHTLY smaller pipe. Maybe 3.00 inch to create a small bit of back-pressure.. That will give him the bet HP output but also allow him to keep good tourque.

Message: no way 3.5 inch pipe is needed with this engine unless you are gunna go forcedinduction. a single 3 inch or dual 2.5 is PLENTY. this is a smallblock remember. plus look at the size of the heeder flanges where they go into the y pipe. that is your bottle-neck. if it's 2.25 then 3 inch pipe on either side is just gunna be bigger, heavier, and more expensive
