Subject: 5.2L 5-speed still stalls IP: Logged
Message: OK, I have a 1997 5.2L 5-speed that has a stalling issue -- it occasionally will not hold idle after you let your foot off the gas. I cleaned the idle air bypass thingy like everyone said, it was a little black but not frozen. The problem remains, and it goes like this:
If I start the truck with the intake hose off, so I can watch the idle air motor move, it shudders a bit, and then the motor opens enough to allow an idle. If I rev it up, the motor immediately closes off the hole, and as I release the gas, it tries to open again, but it's too late to keep it running, it's just beginning to open as the truck is stalling out. So the motor works fine, but something is making the computer stoopid and it's not using it right. Ideas?

Message: How many miles on your truck, If you have more than 50,000. Consider changing the O2 sensor. It can cause a loss of mileage and power.

Message: After all this fuss with EFI parts, it seems the only problem was that my truck still had what appeared to be a stock cap&rotor at 115K. I was told by the previous owner that it had been changed, but it was basically ash inside..
Hmmph.
