Subject: 4.7 Idle

Message:
I have a problem with idle speed on my 4.7 with five speed. For the first 28000 miles, the idle has been perfect. Now when slowing down and then engaging the clutch, the idle speed will vary from 600 rpm to 900 rpm for three or four cycles and then settles down at 650rpm. Sometimes it will stay at 900 rpm for a few seconds and then drop to 650 rpm. The symptoms do not seem to match other posts I've seen about idle problems. In my case, the idle does not drop below 600 rpm and it doesn't seem close to stalling. It was close to the mileage change point for changing plugs, so I replace the plugs with factory spec Champions. Although the idle steadiness improved slightly, the engine speed variation has not improved. At any other speed, the engine is running great. Any suggestions?
