If so, Im Scoots and hey!
I hate to sound so negative but if you need a complete list for the swap you probably shouldnt do it yourself.
It is quite involved and would need some pretty serious skills.
????? wasnt far off the mark with their sarcasm, a donor Dak that came with a V8 would be a great starting place if you could get one wrecked cheap or something. You will need SO MANY parts that it will cost a small fortune to to find em all seperatly.
Good luck if you try it anyway.

I want trying to be sacrastic. I guess I shoudl have elaborated. When you want to do such a massive transplant it's mutch simplier to have a donor truck "OR" pay a shop to do it. Trust me you will get way over your head $ wise in the long run.

just so yall know i'm a mechanic fairly well skilled so yall are lookin pretty stupid tring to make me feel as if i don't know what i'm doing just for back ground i've done plenty of drivetrain work for the u.s. army ... thats my job... my only thing is that this is my first 4 to 8 swap and was wanting a list of stuff i'm gonna need.... i have a 98 dakota sport short box 5 speed i know in a 4 to 6 most cases i can still use the same tranny just have to trade out the bell housing but wasn't sure about a 4 to 8 swap...... oh and just a touch more info on the project money is not even close to an issue i have more than plenty

You will need, for starters, the rear axle and tranny for at least the V6. The 4 cylinder stuff isn't stout enough. V-8 computer(which must be programmed with the VIN of your truck), V-8 harness, Bigger radiator, I'd guess even the springs will need to be swapped, but don't quote me on that.....to put it another way, as stated, you need a donor truck. If it were a 6-shooter it wouldn't be so bad, but the 4 cyl. pretty much needs it all.

They werent trying to make you feel dumb. They are trying to be helpful. I am doing a 3.9 to 5.9 swap right now and I often wonder if I should have gotten a donor truck but I wont and didnt. And I assure you that there is a lot more work involved with going from 4 to 8. About the trans. If yours will bolt to a V6 it will bolt to any small block. ( This you would have known had you been as knowledgeable as you thought you were) about you being a mechanic, It doesnt matter if you are a ASE certified master technician it is still time consuming and a lot of work. Working on HUMVEE's and tanks is a lot different then your Dak. Again dont jump their A$$ when you asked for the list and the help you got both. So heres your list, get a donor truck.

If your such a "Master Mechanic Military Man" then why didnt you get a v8 to begin with? Just seems like a smart thing from my perspective. Last, if you ask for help then b$$ch when someone give it, dont ask. Get a donor truck and get it done. Then never come back to this board again.

well thanx to those who gave advise with out the negitive comments i know plenty about being a mechanic but don't and will never clam to know everything just so u know cory if u had read the statement gen1dak made he or she basicly told me what i thought myself in the manner of tranny's... and oh just so u know if u've never worked on a humvee before they tend to be somewhat like the dakotas only the dakota don't have indipendent suspention in the rear... no i'm not saying that everything is alike but that how the stuff works on the vehicals sorry to say is basicly the same.. anyhow thanx to all of those that gave advise and those who might think of something else i might need... i have a pic of what my truck should look like when i'm done if u would like to see it let me know and i'll send it to ya
