Subject: NO Spark IP: Logged
Message: Last December I bought a ’94 Dakota 4x4. The truck had high miles (270,000+) but I got it for a good price. I drove it all winter long without a mechanical problem (it got sideswiped in parking lot in early Feb.) When I parked it for summer, I noticed that the tranny was starting to slip. The tranny went out when I fired it back up in Oct., so I replaced it. Now I can’t get the truck to start for the life of me. I’ve replaced or tested every possible part that could cause the lack of spark. I even tried switching computers with a friend of mine that has a ’95 318. Now I don’t give up easily on my vehicles, but I’ve just about had it with this truck. Any ideas on what’s wrong? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Message: Hey there.
Are you smelling raw gas after extended cranking times? If not, then it sounds like you are not getting any fuel. maybe a fuel pump then? Did you try to see if the spark plugs are throwing a spark by holding it against a grounded piece of metal while cranking it over? Start from there and let us know what you find.

Message: The spark plug thing was the first thing I tried. no spark. Coil tested OK. New crankshaft & camshaft sensors. New cap and rotor and I've tried replacing the computer. Any other suggestions?

Message: Check all the fuses (dash) and power distribution(box on drivers fender). The coil should have voltage with the ignition on without the engine turning. If those check out I'd consider checking the grounds, then wiring harness & connectors and maybe the ignition switch. I think the only critical relay is the fuel pump relay maybe someone else knows for sure.
Good Luck Let us know how it turns out

Message: Have you checked your relays, there are at least two that can stop it for starting. emergency shut off and fuel pump relay.
that stopped my 92 318 mpi once now I have extra.

Message: wish I can help. I have the same exact problem with my '93...turn key and it cranks, but no spark...checked all relays also....I had read on another board where the wire harness from the relay box on the fender to the firewall there is a 3 wire to 1 wire harness that corrodes, that is going to be my next step in the a.m. (truck at son's girl friends house of course). wish me luck!! When you get yours started, let me know also!!!!

Message: Hey Guys,
You might want to check the ignition module under the distributer cap. Its black flat and two screws hold it down. There is also an connector on it to disconnect before removing it. This might be your problem.

Message: 94Xcab4x4,
I did finally get mine started, it was the 3 wire to 1 wire harness under the relay box on left front wheel well, reconnected, and she fired right up...
