Subject: O2 Sensor - Which one is which? IP: Logged
Message: My father has a Dakota truck with the "big" engine, or its at least big compared to my 2.5 4 banger ;) I don't know much about it. He's at work and the truck is locked so I can't pop the hood to get a look at it. However, the side of the truck does have an SLT badge.
Here's the problem, he's got a bad o2 sensor according to the thrown code, but he's not sure which one. The code (don't know the specific number as he didn't tell me) refers to the number 2 sensor but the sensors are marked front left, rear left, etc. He then later said the code said second bank number two.
So... can anyone lend a hand? I suppose the worst that he'd have to do is buy a sensor and keep swapping it around until he fixes the problem. But that seems a bit annoying.

Message: The second bank is the right side (when sitting in vehicle) bank of cylinders. It is the sensor that is in that sides pipe. Hope that helps.

Message: Need to know year of truck and motor size to be sure but if it's a two O2 sensor system then sensor 2 refers to the sensor after the cat. If it's tossing a MIL then it's quite possible that the sensor is okay and the cat is plugged. That's about all that rear O2 sensor does (monitors the cat's condition).
