When I had my 98' 5.2, 4x4 in to have the CAT replaced I talked to the salesman about the RAM (HEMI). I told him I would love to put one in my DAK. He told me that Dodge is going to offer a Hemi in the 2005 Dakota's. Please GOD let it be so!!!

I just came from the dealer last Thursday and they confirmed the the HEMI powered Dakota (SRT8)will be offered in Jan. 06.

i didn't know that soon but yea, a dealer i do windshield repair for said hemi is coming in the dakota for late 05. this was the owner that told me. he said word is not out yet. that would kill current dakota sales, dodge can't not sell trucks for 6 months this model year. i'm talking my wife into it now. he he.

I had read in a reputable mag that a Dodge rep said significant frame rail modifications would be required to stuff the HEMI in the new Dak...
Plus, 345hp in a production mid-size pickup....yikes. The HEMI Ram is pretty damn ballsy (I car pool to work with a lead fotted HEMI owner, Quad Cab AWD and 20's, its not light).
I'm not saying I don't want it to happen, but I don't think it will. Plus, the new Dak isn't gonna look good down in the weeds...none of them do.

the Grand Cherokee has a hemi now. maybe the dakota will be next, i'm hoping that they're saving the best for last ;-). but i wish they hadn't screwed up the looks of the dakota. if they had improved the genIII model and then put a hemi in it, i would buy one 4x2 and one 4x4, one fast and one all off-road power. i bet that jeep is one fast SOB though.

All you would have to do to comfirm that is go down to your local dealer and measure the Dakota and Durango side by side. The hemi isn't really all that much bigger.

The reputable magazine that Caulk referred to is Car & Driver. I forget which month it was, I give my back issues to my father in law, but it was in the last 6 mos. He did in fact say that the Dakota would not be getting a Hemi because it won't fit. The Dakota and the Durango do not have the same frame dimensions, the Durango is wider. I want a Hemi Dakota as much as the next guy, but it looks like it aint gonna happen.
