Message: Just want to know what people think about comparing Dodge Dakota's to Toyota Tacoma's, good and bad about both. I own a 02 4.7 Dakota and my friend just bought a new Tacoma?

Message: The Tacoma is considerably smaller, and if you love V-8's, there is no comparison, period.

Message: I just bought a used 2001 4x4 Dakota Quad and in the process of shopping for this one I had to eliminate the other contenders. I found a great deal on a nice 2001 4x4 V6 Tacoma Double Cab. I was only able to drive it in snowy conditions so it was hard to feel how much less power was there, but it had plenty of pep. If you don't need the V8 power for some reason or don't just want a V8 then the power was fine. The seller said 15 MPG in town and 20 on the highway.
I am not huge but I am a bigger guy @ 6'1 205 and the front seating area was just not quite roomy enough. I fit in there but it felt too small. Maybe the front buckets gave it that feel. The back seat was adequate (with the driver seat all the way back I could sit behind it comfortably). The back seats were much narrower than the dodge and the most distinguishing part was the access -- the toyota was difficult to climb in and out of.
For the money my dakota has a lot more frills and options than that toyota did. Comparisons of quality and longevity and resale value have yet to play out, but Toyotas usually dominate everybody there.

Message: I suppose it depends on what you want to do with the truck. The Tacoma will be easier to park, but you won't be able to haul nearly as much (people/payload/towing).
