Subject: HELP !! what is this sound from? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 98 4x4 ext cab with a 5.2. I took it in and had the oil and trans fluid changed and the trans flushed. Later that day it started making a sound that seems to be coming from behind the motor or front of trans. The thing sounds like a power steering pump when the wine. The sound at times will stop but comes back. I took it back the droped the trans pan and put another new filter on it and new fluid but it is still doing it. Have any of you heard this before and what is it? Thanks !!

Message: I ve heard that sound before. I would take it to a tranny shop. My problem was the torque converter. It was coming apart!! I would get a first and second opinion.

Message: Now that is interesting! I recently bought my 99 dak. and they flushed the trans. before I bought it. Mine makes that same exact sound. When I pull the dipstick, it has little bubbles on it. I hope someone here can explain what the problem might be!

Message: Never heard it, but from your description of the location, and type of sound, I would guess your torque converter is producing the sound. Pop the torque converter cover off (think its only 4 bolts) and have a look. You probably will not see anything indicative from the outside of the converter, if this is the case take it to a tranny shop.

Message: i can,t say for sure,besause i,m not there.
but the noise is coming from the torque converter and the front pump[lack of fluid]
[air in the system]
bubbles in the fluid, over filled causing fluid to foam,GM is noted for this problem.usally not a problem with dodge, but can cause seal failure.
does it do/make this noise/whining sound more after the truck has set over night, when you first go and gets less as you drive?
more noticiable at low speed.[the converter is back draining overnight]transgo, shift kit and others help this problem.
hope this helps
