Amsoil guy, your pretty smart...you mention all the right symptoms. The Neon was bought new and after a 7500mile conventional oil, I switched it to Mobil1. The consumption began to ramp up
at about 60K. This was the same time that the infamous head gasket reared its head. We had that replaced by the dealer @ 72K and have had
no more problems. The PVC and radiator a/frz are serviced regularly. Definitely no oil in the radiator. No leaks on the block. This one is a stumper. I do plan to switch brands as you mentioned abuot the GM engines...or a viscosity change. Appreciate your replies.

I have had two amsoil catalogs sent to me. I am debating on purchasing amsoil but i have one drawback. i have a 2000 dakota quad cab and in the amsoil catalog it suggest to do a amsoil motor flush before install amsoil oil into the vehicle. my concern is damage of the engine when doing the motor flush because i have no experience with a motor flush product and two i would not think a newer vehicle would need a motor flush.

Amsoil Sponsor Recommends Auto-Rx Flush

Jerry,

Here is the Engine (and/or Transmission) Flush that I recommend. I do not sell Auto-Rx, it is a proprietary product. It works extremely well and is safe for your engine and the environment.

Website is www.auto-rx.com

Auto-Rx, I have recommended it multiple times on this site.

IMHO, it is the best flush on the market.

From my personal knowledge and per their website, Auto-Rx is a synthetic, biodegradable, highly effective, safe metal cleaner. Auto-RX is gentle, slow acting, and thorough. I know many vehicle owners that have used it and no one has reported any problems.

Auto-RX is inert in your oil,it does not negatively affect any aspect of your host oil except to clean and disburse crud to the oil filter. There are no negatives associated with it's use. Auto-RX was developed as an alternative to solvents for a slower non hazardous alternative that does not deplete, but ends up disbursing the crud in a very small form ... small enough to flow by bearings etc.

If anyone decides to use this Auto-RX product (For the record ... I do not sell it) FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS RELIGIOUSLY.

I wish that I sold it ... but it is a proprietary product.

An Engine Flush is suggested --- but not required --- before switching to Amsoil. The Engine Flush is recommended so that Amsoil has a clean environment in which to work, and if you plan on extending your oil drain intervals using Amsoil, then it is better to start with a clean engine. I have switched over many older vehicles that were "well maintained" with no problem. I just tell the vehicle owner that they should maintain their current oil drain interval for a couple of changes.

Engine Flush dissolves and disperses harmful deposits formed in the crankcase, cylinder walls, pistons and rings of an internal combustion engine. When used as directed, it cleans and restores operating efficiency to valves, valve lifters, rocker arms, and pistons for improved horsepower, fuel economy, and performance.

Why Clean Your Engine?

Chances are, when your engine was new it delivered the power and fuel efficiency it was designed for. But now, as your engine accumulates miles, things are happening that are adversely affecting its performance. Slowly but surely, your engine is gathering harmful deposits that will eventually cost you money.

Even though you may follow a routine service schedule, your driving conditions may be far from routine. Stop and go driving, prolonged periods of idling, short trips that don't allow your engine time to warm up, towing a trailer, the ingestion of airborne dirt, fuel dilution, water condensation, and oxidized oil will eventually cause the formation of a thick, gummy deposit known as sludge. Settling throughout the engine, sludge will clog oil passages, restricting the flow of oil to vital engine parts, especially in the upper valve train areas.
