Message: Can any of you guys out there that have built your 318's give me some tips. I am looking to get my 99' cc into the low 13's high 12's as a daily driver. Supercharging is an option, but only as a reliable setup, not trying to push 20psi or anything I drive my truck daily. No nitrous I don't want the ugly bottle in my bed.

Message: are you building the motor from the block up? And do you have to pass an emission test?

Message: Mopar Muscle did this back in '96 with a standard cab 318 Dakota. Now, this is just to give you an idea. Your Dak is at least 400 lbs heavier, albeit cleaner in the aero dept, but that won't do much to offset the weight. Anyway, they started with a 318/automatic/3.90 geared Dak. First they added headers/free-flow exhaust/and Mopar Perf. PCM. That got them to 15 sec in the quarter at a 89mph in admittedly bad Florida air. They then added a Vortech supercharger running 6psi boost. Since the MP PCM rolled in too much timing advance, they needed the MSD 6BTM to reduce the timing under boost. This way they kept low-end power, but stopped detonation at the high end. At this point they were at 14 seconds and 97mph. They realized the stock valvetrain wasn't making use of the boost at high rpm, since the stocker was giving up at 5200 rpm. They installed the Magnum RT cam kit. They were now running 13.65/102 against a conservative 6000rpm rev limit and through the stock tranny. They then swapped in a 2400 rpm (2800rpm flash) Fairbanks torque converter and valve body shift improver. They needed Mickey T's to get traction at this point, but it ran 13.25/107, again in bad Florida air. This doesn't even take into account things like roller rockers and HD pushrods. Also, there have been improvements in the electronics controls. This was all done with a stock 318. Throw in some RT heads, a hi-volume oil pump, and some ARP bolts in the bottom end for added safe margins when redlining to 6300 rpm and it can be done. Going non-supercharged? Hmmmm, that's similar, but a hotter cam is required, as well as some throttle-body work, and an M1 intake.

Message: that'll about do it there. Stick with the supercharger if you can , that way you can keep a smoothest idle
