Subject: A quick explanation?

3 terms I hear but don't quite know the definitions
1) What makes a "small block" a small block?
2) What makes a "big block" a big block?
3) What makes an engine a "stroker" engine?

Big block is a bigger block, like a 426, 440, 396, 454, 502, 390, 426, 429, etc..
small block is a smaller block in comparison to the big block, 305, 350, 302, 318, 360, 287, etc..
A stroker motor is when a crankshaft is replaced with a crankshaft with the rod journals being further away from the center, causing the rod and piston to have to go deeper into the engine, and to keep the piston from coming out of the block shorter rods are used.

The crankshaft is changed so you can use matching rods and pistons to give you a longer stroke or a shorter stroke in the cylinder for more torque in one case or higher rpm and horspower in the other.

handi2, think about it, if you were to use the same rods in a stroker moor the pistons would come right out of the block each time, shorter rods are the answer.

All that is changed in a stroker motor is the crank and pistons. The stroke of the crank is changed and the pin height. Can use stock rods but usualy don't as they are not as strong as some aftermarket ones.

Clevite,
Didn't you read that I said to use matching rods and pistons to change the stroke of the engine..?
Where does it say to use the same rods..? Read post carefully before slamming. It was just a quick explanation without going into details.

hey handi2, sorry about that, I did read your post wrong, I assumed that when you said matching you meant the same, but I see what cha meant. I really didn't mean to slam ya, (that's what caps are for hehe). I don't like to slam anyone even if they're asking some common sense stuff cuz we all started somewhere.
