well i read up on it and went out and tried it. All i got to say is WOW. on the 01 4.7 Auto it is the yellow wire with the green strip. it is the number 10 pin on the TCM. I found the wire and snipped it (goign to be putting in a toggle switch so i can turn it off and on from inside the cab when needed. I took the truck out and nailed it to the floor and bam chirpped 2nd gear and it snapped me into the seat. Not bad for a free on demand shift kit. Also no codes or lights.

if you got 4 plugs them the TCM is built in to the PCM so this mod will not work

YUp. I got the 4 plug PCM and it set of a code. I allready posted about this last week but the funny thing I've noticed is that this color of the wire seems to be consistant in Chrysler.

The Yellow with green stripe on my '03 did effect my shift (before setting a fault) and when I tried to hold the wire to 12VDC manually and it shifted it even barked the tires really good going into second with NO reduction in timing or performance doing so. But again the fault and into limp mode it would go.

I'd like to note that when reading the schematics for my 1998 Chrysler Cirrus it also uses the same color and wire. It also has a seperate TCM from the PCM like you guys are describing so I assume this will work but I've been too busy to do it.

I like to experiment. If I can do something to trick my 2003 I'll definitely post it.

I'm savvy enoough to find the wire and cut it, but not to create the toggle switch, anyone of you mechanics out there see a problem down the road with leaving this wire cut all the time for an extended time?

The mod doesn't work on the 2003 Dak but today I did it with a switch on my 1998 Chrysler Cirrus and it worked great!

Check here http://www.dodgedakota.net/boards/gen/14821.html

Click on my banner below to see my pics. This mod is under my Cirrus section, not my Dakota.

The pics may help.

I knew what TCM stood for but was just letting people know that it was the silver unit buy the radiator on the passenger side to make it easier to find. I guess I should have been more clear. Anyway excellent pictures of your set up. everyone should check it out on the general pge.thanks

i have done this mod! so far no codes... this mod works quite well i might add. it will definately hit second hard and will leave a nice chirp. it definately turns heads!!!! only prob is when you have overdrive enabled under WOT it will shift into 4th at 75(well at least for me cause i have 4.10 rear) but if i disable it it will hold it out to 95 then i hit it and it goes into 4th. ok one tank of gas gone with tmr mod. result: geez 220 miles on a 22 gallon tank!!! normally i can go 330 on a tank or get roughly 18 to 20 mpg back and forth to work. with the mod im gettin i think like 10 to 13mpg!!! i will definately have to put it on a switch!!! ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT IT FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME OR ASK!!!
