I could be off base here, but this is what I remember from an earlier conversation.
There is no real physical differance between the 01's and the 02's except for some minor cable runs (like the cruise control). All the Paxton '01 parts will physically bolt on to an '02.
The differance is in the computer and smog specs. Paxton did the work to make it smog legal, and to have the proper tune for the '01 computer. But it wasn't a big seller, and the 5.9 was a limited edition dead animal. In 2001, only about 5% of Dakotas had the 5.9, and the 4.7 was new. In 2002, only about 2-3% of trucks had the 5.9 - and that engine was only going to be produced for another year. It was a good marketing decision for Paxton drop that line. Bad for us, but good for Paxton.
Can you bolt it on? Yes, I believe you can. But programming the computer could be a trail. When you call Paxton, tell them it's for off road use only, and will never see the street. Maybe they'll believe you.
