Message: MY FRIEND HAS A 87 DAKOTA SE WITH THE 3.9L V6 WITH THE AUTO. HE KEEPS ON COMPLAINING THAT THE LITTLE 6 DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH POWER SO I SUGGESTED THAT HE TRANSPLANT A V8. IS THE 5.2L 318 AND THE 5.9L 360 DIRECT IMPLANTS INTO HIS CHASSIS? HOW WOULD HIS WEAK AUTOMATIC TRANNY HOLD UP WITH THE EXTRA TORQUE OF THE V8? WE GOT THE RESOURCES, THE TOOLS AND THE MOTOR SKILLS TO TO THE IMPLANTING ALL WE GOT TO KNOW IS IF IT IS A DIRECT EXCHANGE. THANKS FOR YOURGUYS TIME

See them for the adapter kit for engine mounting. The tranny can be beefed to handle the V8's, but stock and with mileage? Nah. Wouldn't last long. More than likely, you have a 998. For what it'd cost to beef up the 998, you could get a 727, which will fit, is slightly longer, so the driveshaft will need to be shorter, but is inherently stronger thanks to bigger guts. Also remember to use the torque converter that matches both the engine you use as well as your particular tranny.

Message: Use a different radiator ('86 Toyota Supra turbo), trim the inner edge of the radiator support frame, slide the radiator forward into the frame. That'll open it up about 3 inches....no holes in the radiator.

Message: I'm very interested in any replies concerning this swap, as I am building an 88 with a 360 for drag racing. I will be changing the front to look like a 96, and am trying to make the swap as simple as possible. I know that I can fabricate an engine plate, but would like to think I can use the original mounting points. Now correct me if I am wrong (from the looks of things I probably am) but are the V6 mounting points on the block not based on the 318/360 locations and thus should it not be a straight swap, with no adapters required. Any info from anyone having done something similar would be appreciated. I know Shumacher makes adapter kits, but those kits would convert to almost $600CDN and I would like to avoid that expense if possible. Thanks!
