Message: you also have to pull off the intake maifold, and take out the distributor, and take out the lifters, pushrods, and rockers.
you also need a special tool that stops the cam from pushing out a plug in the back of the engine.
you might as well get a new timing chain while you have the old one off

Message: that was an old picture of the headers. the guy who had it before me had wrapped them. it now has gibson headers on it without the wrap. sounds like a pretty good job changing out the cam, think i just might pay a shop to do it. the manifold bout broke my back changing it out, i can't imagine how long i would be bent over the truck changing out the cam then. think i'll let someone else break there back this time.

Message: how much did they help? i heard they only give you around 12 h.p. should be able to get alot more than that out of a decent cam.

Message: well mike leach says the mp pcm gives about 10hp to the ground, and i can say the 1.7's do way more than that.
i have heard 20hp to the ground in the 5.9.
if you have a lot of money to spend, get a cam. it will probably cost $400+ just in labor.
also, a cam (depending how crazy you go) might rob you of lowend torque. that means you have to get gears and a torque converter to make up for it.
the 1.7's give more power from idle to redline
