Subject: 4.7 or 5.2????? IP: Logged
Message: I have the opportunity to purchase a 4.7 manual dakota with 6.500, but i currently own a 1998 5.2 auto. I have my 5.2 setup with a shaker hood and R/T wheels. I REALLY want the manual but im not sure if i want to go from my current 5.2 V8 to a 4.7 V8? I also have a shaker hood on my 5.2, would that fit on the 4.7?
Basically do you think the 5.2 with 80,000 miles is better or the 4.7 manual with 6,500?
ANY information would help ALOT
Thanks Guys............KrychRT

Message: Go with the 4.7 its fast as hell with the stick, i got the 3.92 rear and can only get 25 mph out of first gear and the gears pull hard up to the 5th gear...also best of all it sounds bad with exhaust. That is my opinion......

Message: Depends on what you're going to do with it. The 4.7 makes good power but in a very narrow power band. Not much area under the curve. If it's a fun driver and daily commuter, the 4.7 will be more fun.
OTOH, the 5.2 doesn't make quite as much power, but has a much broader/flatter torque curve, with much more area under the curve. If you're looking for a good off roader or work truck, the 5.2 will be better.

Message: Don't worry about one over the other, both are excellent engines. If the year/ dollars/ mileage/ desires equation is there, got for it. I had a '92 5.2 auto, now a '01 4.7 5-spd. Loved my old Dak, new one just as much. The manual is an absolute blast, especially with 3:92 gear. I'm not familiar enough about your hood, KrychRT. From a hassle standpoint, let it go; it may help to sell your '98.

Message: Thanks alot guys for your input. I think its time to let my 5.2 go for the reason that it has 80,000 miles on it now and the 4.7 has only 6,500. But another question for you
I hear that if i wanted to build up the 4.7 engine (cam, lifters, headers, exc.) that the options are VERY limited?
Is this true?????

Message: Hey I was wondering about how much you are going to have to pay to get that 4.7 with the tranny cause I am debating putting one of the 4.7's in my gen II. Also, since I have a 3.9, does the 4.7 use the same motormounts as the 5.2?

Message: KrychRT, I've got an '00 4.7L CC, and on the whole, theres just about as much stuff as for the 5.2 or the 3.9. Some of the things you have to look around for, and soem companies won't make stuff for it. But if you know the right magazines/stores to look at, you should be able to find everything for a 4.7 that you would for a 3.9 or a 5.2. I've been able to find everything I want for my truck. It just might take some looking.
