2000 4.7L V8 Dakota
2 things:
I have a bad sounding noise coming from under the hood, originally thought it might be the idler pulley or worst yet, the tension belt pulley but think I narrowed it down to the AC clutch. With the belt off, when I spin the AC clutch pulley by hand it makes a metal spinning on metal noise. AC works great inside truck and there is not change in the noise whehter the AC is on or off and the noise is not there all the time.
I also reccently replaced my serpentine belt and now I get a nasty squeal off the AC pulley when I first crank up the truck, disappears after 30 seconds or so and only squeals when I give it gas or turn the wheels. Why would I be getting this off a new belt?
Any recommendations on how to make it stop?

sounds like the bearing for the fromt of the compressor. it will make noise whether it's on or not.

Can't do it. The bearing is staked into the rotor. You'll want to replace the armature at eh same time.

You need to go ahead and replace the whole A/C compressor and clutch. It is possible to just replace the clutch, but you need to have the right tools (kind of tools only a shop has) like a press tool. All in all thought, you really arent saving much more by just doing the clutch.
Do it all, get it done, dont come back!

That is a shame, its an original AC using with just over 90k miles on it and it blows ice cold air but it makes the metal on metal spinning sound. Almost want to just let it go until it either falls off or seizes up.
