Subject: 02 R/T 3rd cat help? IP: Logged
Message: Had a flowmaster 40 delta put on , and side exit duals yesterday. I have 3 cats, one on each manifold, and a 3rd inline. Guy at the shop said if I removed the 3rd cat it would screw up the performance. Is this true? Will it run better (more HP, etc) without the 3rd cat? I have a superchips tuner and K&N FIPK on order. Will this void my warranty too? Gut it maybe? Any advice?

Message: hey. i also have a 2002 r/t and when i took off the 3rd cat and replaced it with a straight pipe it made the truck sound much meaner and did give it a little power too. def a great free mod to do. just make sure when u have to get ur emmissions checked that u put it back on or u will fail the visual test if not the whole test.

Message: Remove the third cat altogether. It has no sensors and will run better.
I removed mine off my 03 with no issues.

Message: yeah the guy at the muffler shop tried to fill me with that bull crap too about cutting the cats off. I think it was just because he didn't want to do it you know with liability and everything. But the lack of back pressure some times screws up performance of your engine. Just don't cut everything off.
