Message: Get a tonno cover and change all your fluids to synthetics. And over time it'll get better.
Remember though that yer driving a truck with a V8. Don't expect miracles. My best is around 21 mpg. I'm a flat lander down in Florida though.

Message: I've already got a tonno cover and yes I know i'm driving a V8 and I don't expect any miracles, 12mpg just seemed kind of low to me. But I guess it will get a bit better.

Message: If it doesn't change i'd say take it to the shop. You may have a bad o2 sensor. Don't let them flash your computer though. You'll loose every bit of power you now enjoy.

Message: Good advice. I don't think its average, nor would I expect it to get better. My 2K 4.7 4x4 does about 15mpg since new, and sometimes I do drive like an idiot.

Message: I like this subject. Probably, because i do very well on gas mileage. All my life,i`ve driven powerfull cars and i always menaged to stretch the MPG 20 to 30% more than the average driver.
My point is this. My MPG is whatever i want, from 14 mpg minimum a couple of times, to 22.5 mpg many many times. Normally, i drive to obtain around 18, without any concentration.
If you have a 5 speed manual, try not to go beyond 2000 rpm, and sum you`ll find out that you can stay at less than 1500 rpm all day. Use the local speed limit in your favor, droping the rpm to a minimum. Remember that this is a tork oriented engine. You dont have to rev it high to get going . Get to 5th gear asap.
Today, with 97 k miles, my truck is 2 to 3 mpg better than brand new under any circunstance, and also, i added around 15 to 18% more power.
My truck is a 2000 2 WD 4.7, 5 sp manual with 3.92 LSD, K&N FIPK2, Fastman true 68 TB, H.O. intake and cams, Gibson headers and single side cat back(best for tork), 180* T stat, no clutch fan, stage 2 jet chip,(to be replaced by Leash or BG flashing),etc etc. I`ve got to go.

Message: I have an '01 Dak, 4.7L V8, 2WD EXT Cab with a Tonneau Cover adn 235/75/15 tires. I have a 75L tank and drive 70/30 highway/city. I average 510KM's to a 75L tank of gas. I use my cruise control ALOT. To be honest, given the vehicle and the engine size, I'm very happy. I had a 96 Cherokee with the 4.0L HO and I was LUCKY to get 475 out of it.

Message: I'll second ricarcapecod's advise, and add checking your tire pressure every two weeks. Seasonal changes influence tire PSI. A bed cover or shell helps mpg on the highway. 18.5 mpg overall city/hwy for my '01 4.7 RC 5-spd 3:92 HO cams, Flow 70 duals catback, alloy homebrew w/ K&N drop-in, Bosch 4418 plugs, Mobil1 5w30, Amsoil in LSD, 3"/2" drop, Snugtop cab-hi shell, Michelin 255/55/17 LTX.

Message: I havea 2001 dodge dakota RC 4.7 motor sport addtion truck with an auto and I average 17 mpg. I am a total led foot and usually do about 80 on the highway. If I really push my truck around town it still only drops to 16 mpg. I have logged 45000 miles and I have nevey had bad gas milage like you describe. I have the origan spark plugs in still. I removed the third cat and have custom side exhaust. also I have a kn cool air intake and that is it. I also run multi-blend oil in it. I think that helps alot. Has anyone got the kenne bell conputer upgrade? Does it help with gas milage? Power increase?

Message: As it's warmed up over the past 5 weeks or so my mileage has gone up from 12mpg to 15mpg and if anything I'm driving it a bit harder. Last fill was 512KM @ 77 liters. 77 / 5.12 = 15.03 liters per 100k. (512 * 0.6) / (77 / 3.78) = 15.08 MPG US gallons.
I'm coming up on 15000K so I think I am going to put syn in the diffs; already running M1 in the engine, and hopefully as it warms up even more maybe it will get even better.
Oh yeah, this is an '04 QC, 4x4 w/3.55's.
