Tire pressure: check every two weeks. If sitting idle for over two minutes, shut engine off.

Inflate tires, change to synthetic fluids, take your foot out of the throttle, learn to coast whenever possible. Drive like you have an egg between your foot and the gas pedal. It takes practice - but if I can do it - anyone can!

Eggs? you kidding, I didn`t buy a V8 to not enjoy it! So I get 13-14(winter) instead of maybe 15. Personally I think people who coast and lug it around for mileage gains have serious mental problems, go buy a Honda for Christ sake! Mine is like pat f`s anyway, the computer seems to be programmed to get 14 no matter what. 03 qc 4.7 4x4 auto. Enjoy however you want guys, just kidding about the psychos;)

As stated just keep it tuned up, running good and at the correct tire psi.

Don't waste your money on expensive mods that will never pay off in increased mpg.

I'm lucky to get 10-12 in town - 14 on the hiway.
But.... I wouldnt trade good mileage for the imprint in my seat. Nothin feels better than rocketing into 10 mpg!!!

I have a 2000 with 2 wheel drive at 65 mph on the highway it makes 19 mpg. I believe the K/N filter got me 1-2 mpg. I have heard that sythetic oil in the rear end and engine will help a bit.

I checked my gas milage the last two fill ups and I am barely breaking 8 mpg's on my 2002 QC 4x4 with the 4.7 and auto tranny. Took it to the dealer and they suggested I change my spark plugs..........So I did..........and no change.

Whoa..... 19 MPG with a 4x4 QC? My '04 QC 4x4, with 4.7 V8, 3:55 gears got 19.2 on the highway coming back from Denver to Wichita drivin' 82MPH. Most of the time, I run about 15.4 MPG back and forth to work on Turnpike, runnin' 65 MPH. I have 9100 miles, and use Castrol synblend oil, no K&N filter either! I also run 40 PSI in the tires, and have a cab-high topper on the bed. With a V8, who is looking for great mileage???

This is a topic that has been around the block a few times!!! Here are a couple of key differences that seems to get over looked....It's more than just the 4.7L engine. Your mileage will be affected by the body style due to the weight difference and drag, the rear axle ratio, 4x4 or 4x2, 5spd manual or automatic tranny and lets not foget that the '00 4.7 auto was the 45rfe which has one less gear ratio than the '01-04 545rfe. And the biggest factor seems to be(and I'M NOT POINTING FINGERS!!)that some people have no clue how to calculate gas mileage.

Now that being said........

My '00 QC 4.7 auto 4x4 was getting 12MPG average highway when new up until around 12K miles. After 12K miles it jumped up to 14MPG highway (?). I installed a K&N filter, fresh plugs and removed the clutch fan and my mileage stayed the same. At 70K miles I removed the rotted out stock muffler and installed a cheap Pace Setter turbo muffler. My mileage jumped up to 16 MPG highway and has been there ever since. The odd thing about this truck (well, one of the many odd things!) is my mileage isn't affected much by towing. I still for the most part seem to get the same mileage even when towing a loaded car trailer. Go figure! The only way to really save gas with this truck is to park it.
