I have a 93 5.2 Dakota that is popping and banging like the spark plug wires are crossed but they are not. The cam is only about a 278 it is a turbo cam.
It runs bad enough that I can't shift it into drive with out it dieing and it won't run, in less it is revved above about 1800 rpm. It surges at any rpm and backfires above 3000rpm
As for as I know the computer just has a factory timing setting and I don't know how to get around that, if that is the problem.
I put new springs in it with about .570 lift and I have a new timing chain and gears and it is set on the middle mark. But it probably doesn’t have anything to do with that. Any body know what is going on???
Do I just need a new computer with different timing settings?
When I turn the distributor it doesn't change the spark timing because the computer adjusts it up to a certain point then dies. Turning the distributor does change the fuel timing as far as I can tell.
