Okay, I have a 2002 4.7 QC. On the left side of engine there is the PCM(?) with three plugs. Beside the radiator is the TCM(?) with one long plug. That was were I disconnected the wire. The truck runs the same except for when you get into it you notice the different change.

OK. There is OBVIOUSLY a difference here in the 2000 thru 2002 and my 2003. Mine has ONLY the PCM there and FOUR plugs on it. No TCM as you are calling it.

Bummer. Who knows what I tapped into then. It DID effect the shift when I messed with it, which was kind of BLINDLY I will admit.

Jeremiah tempted me. And I just HAD to play with it.

So, who knows where I can get a manual for this thing that would INCLUDE the engine control schematics?

GraphiteDak, you need to get on dodgetrucks.org and do a search. The 03-04 hemi and 4.7 intructions on how to do this are on that website. It is like a 20 page thread but you will find your answer in there somewhere b/c i've read it. I just dont remember exactly how it was done on the newer models since i have an 01.

Thanks. I haven't bothered to go over there yet.
Maybe someone could copy and paste the thread over here??? Unless someone would get upset.

I'll check it out.

OK, been reading this and think I may have answered my own question.

I read this bit about a similar mod to a PT Cruiser... This modification does not work on any 2003 model year PT's since there is no wire input or output for the newly designed 2003 PCM. The 2003 PCM seems to have taken over some of the TCM controls. This function is likely an internal pre-programmed one. http://www.ptdoityourself.net/ptshiftburpguide.html.

OK, if they changed the 2003 PT Cruiser PCM to be all in one instead of having two different modules, the PCM and TCM, then maybe that's also what appears to be different on our 2003 Dakota's. Bummer man!

I have a 99 Jeep GC w/4.7 and want to do this same mod. On my setup it will be a lot easier to do at the TCM. I pulled the plastic cover to expose the wires and I have a yellow w/green and a yellow w/dark green. Counting from the bottom the yellow/green is in the #10 position so I am assuming this is the correct one. When you guys say you pulled the "pin", how did you accomplish this? I would rather not cut wire if I don't have to. Thanks for the response.

jbro,
Cutting the wire is much easier than trying to get the pin out. If you break the tabs on the pin that hold it in then when you want to put the pin back it may not stay or fit in properly. You should use the proper tool to remove pins from those multi pin connectors. Just cut the wire and if you want to reconnect them then use a butt splice or solder them and then hide the connections in the loom or tubing that covers those wires where they come out of the TCM plug.

I'd cut the wires and run a switch inside the cab to turn it on and off. I wish I could do it on my 2003 Dak but they changed the PCM it looks. There seems to be no TCM unit where the 2002 and older have them.

I just looked up my schematics for our 1998 Chrysler Cirrus. Guess what. The wire on that is also yellow with a green stripe!
I'm going to play with that after I get back from the dunes this weekend. I'll post pics and results when I do.

MY INTREPID HAS TORQUE MANAGEMENT AS WELL, IT EXPLAINS ABOUT IT IN THE SERVICE MANUAL, AND YES IN 2003 ALL CHRYSLER VEHICLES INTEGRATED THE TCM INTO THE PCM. SORRY ABOUT THAT

Any of the electronic transmissions have torque management.. (41TE, 42LE, 45RFE, 5/45RFE)..

It's really there to help keep them together..

I'm sure it makes the shifts much "firmer" but what your actually feeling is about 1000% increase in shock load on the tranny parts..

Job security.

i was reading this post little after 12 a.m. and thought what the hell.ive got a 2001 durango 4.7,dual cold air intake with K&N filters,a.i.t mod, duel 3" ehaust with 40 series flowmasters, and now the torque mod.this by far was the most fun mod yet!!!going from 1st to second is great (no more lag) and 2-3 it just keeps climbing.i also this this has eliminated the rev limiter as i hit 6000 from 1-2 gear.I highly recomend this for anyone wanting the shift kit feal without the price.

I have a2000 dakota 4.7 and I cut the yellow/green stripe
wire the first run I did was just as described in this post, but
when I went to do it again it would shift at 4k rpm with the
petal to the floor...im assuming this is limp mode, so I
turned the truck off for ten seconds or so started it and once
again the first run went great, but then the same problem
again, could it have been the wrong wire? I was told it was
the yellow/green wire located on a small harness running
right under the left hood hinge
