Subject: RPM fluctuation IP: Logged
Message: My 2001, 4.7, V8 dakota engine seems "unsmooth" in the idle position (i.e. at a stop light). The RPM fluctuates just above and below 1500 with the feeling that a slight "BASS-like" vibration. Is there something wrong with my transmission? If not, is there anything you could tell me? Thanks.

Message: idling at 1500! ouch, that cannot be good for shifting from park. my truck does the same thing only not every stop. sometime it'll shake and rattle and the next time it'll be fine. i thought it was a timing problem but that's just me.

Message: You should idle around 550 to 650 and it should be smooth. Something is very wrong if you idle at 1500.

Message: YOu know, my 01, 4.7, with the manual real 5 speed, idles somooth as silk, every time. Even after adding the HO cams and HO intake, istalling a nice home brew air intake, etc.
It's kinda cool, if your'e coasting in nuetral, it will icle at 1100 rpms, until the truck speed slows to below 10 mph. I figure it's to save some wear on the clutch plate when downshifting at low rpms.
Seems to be an auto thing. NOt that autos are bad, if that's what you really want.

Message: if you have a 4.7L you can go to the dealership and tell them you are having computer problems. they will replace the pcm for free cause they have a 8 year/80,000 mile warranty. anything that has to do with emissions does.

Message: Sotty skitter, they'll need to verify that first. This could easily be something else, like a bad or dirty IAC on the TB.
