Message: How do I find out what tranny I have?
I thought it was an A-500 at first but it seems that being a '98 it may be different.
I want a shift kit for it but I have to know what to get...logic:/

Message: Look in your glovebox. There will be a sticker that lists all of your factory options. I have a 97 5.2, and it says I have the 44re (A500 w/OD)

Message: Thanks Jason but I thought an A-500 was a 904 with O/D and a 727 with o/d was an A-518.

Message: What is the "RE-#"?
The glove box doesn't say. It has 2 codes for the tranny.

Message: Just go to your Dodge dealer and ask them to run a "Function 14" and get the list of all options that came on your rig.

Message: I got mine from truckperformance.com for $100 or you can get it from krcperformance.com Marty is around the same price. I don't know all that re# stuff but I know its a A500. You can also get it from Prcesion Industries who made my stall converter at converter.com. Go to products then click on transmission components by the Dodge logo.
SLEEPER318
p.s. I'm running a supercharged magnum behind the converter with just about everything else you can do to the motor besides touching the crank, rods, and pistons and i've never had one bit of trouble with either the converter or shift kit. I launch the truck a 3800 rpm off the line. It's a great product and can't go wrong with it. best 100 buck I spent.

Message: The RE stands for electronic trans (although they are not fully electronic). The a500 and a518 I believe are called rh trans. Hydraulic I'm assuming. Anyways, they are basically the same trans with the computer having a little more to say on the re trans.

Message: The DGB stand for std duty 4 spd auto trans and the DGW stands for 44re trans. The 5.2L have 44re's, 3.9L have 42re's and the 5.9L have 46re's.
44 and 42's have a taller first gear 2.74. Related to the A904. The 46re is related to the A727 with 2.45 first gear.

THANKS GUYS, THAT'S WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR:)
NOW, what about the electronic shift kit I've been hearing about?
I would rather do the hydraulic part of it any way but I am curious.

Message: So I hear that some one said that the o/d units don't get enough fluid.
Does the TransGo kit attend to this problem?
Do you get choices on the type of shift you can have?
Is there a "Do It Yourself/no parts/$$ needed thing out there?
I use to do this to my non-o/d transmissions, drill out a hole in the separator plate, remove a ball and increase the line pressure.
$$ getting tight.
Thanks
