Message: I just got back from the mechanic and he said that the tranny clunk is normal with these Daks. He also said that I souldn't drive with the o/d on when i'm in the city. Is this right? Every car I have ever driven, i have driven with the o/d on. Why else is the factory default set for the o/d to be on? Also he said a little oil in the throttle is normal. Is this correct?

Message: Mik, I don't know what they call normal (oil in the plenum) as IntenseDak39 said you will have a little but have read others to say that there mechanic said it was normal only to find that the gasket was blown. If you are using allot of oil there has to be a reason why. Another way to check for the plenum, there is vacuum coming from the air tube from the Air Hat to the left valve cover tub. The vacuum was present even when I disconnected both the PVC and the air tube at the same time. To me that said there was a vacuum being pull through the engine and when you think about it you end up at the plenum gasket being gone. For the STAT at least go with the one that is called for, I don’t know how a cooler one would work on yours.
IntenseDak39 I didn’t have a major loss of power but did get a much higher idle, now that was with the old IAT and a new one. After I replaced the plenum I did see allot of the power that I had notice was gone come back and the idle return too normal. My gasket was blown about as bad as I think most get. Sorry for the long post!

Message: Your mechanic is right. Turn the OD off when your speeds are going to be under 50mph. The default is OD off because it's better for gas economy to have the OD on all the time, than to drive at high speeds with the OD off. I always switched my OD off when I was just driving around town. The truck drove a lot better, and stayed in its power band much better. On streets with a 40 to 45mph limit, with the OD on, the torque converter would constantly lock and unlock, and if the tranny dropped into OD, the truck was a total pig and had absolutely NO power. Even the slightest push on the gas would immediately cause a downshift, anyway, so I just left OD locked out, unless I was going to be driving on the highway for more than a few miles. Just remember to switch the OD on/off at stoplights, or at low speeds...never turn OD off while you're cruising at highway speeds.
