Subject: Spark plug change IP: Logged
Message: I changed the spark plugs, wires, distributer cap, rotor button, and coil today. Now all of a sudden my 5.2 liter will not start. Well actually I can get it to start but it is very sluggish when it finally starts and it spits and sputters. I have never had a problem like this. I can't figure out what the problem is. I have checked the firing order many times to make sure all the wires are in the right places. Short of replacing all the new stuff with the old stuff is there any one who can suggest something?

Message: Is it possible that you put the rotor button on backwards, essentially putting the timing 180-out? Dist cap is seated properly? When checking that firing order, you checked on the cap as well as the engine? I had one rotor button that somehow went on a little crooked and rather quickly tore itself to pieces as the engine turned over and promptly quit. I'd swap a part individually to rule them out.

Message: Sounds like firing order 2 me. If all looks well to you I'd have someone else check the whole thing out and if both of you agree the order is correct then one of your parts is bad. Probably bad plug or wiring.

Message: Your new wires may be in the proper order, but are you sure you started in the correct terminal in the distributor cap? Check to be sure the #1 spark plug wire is in the #1 terminal on the cap. I made this mistake once and like to have never figured out what it was.
