when I got in my 99 Dakota 4x4 today it wouldn't start. It seemed to be the battery so I had a friend come to jump it. While I was waiting the interior lights would go on and off and every time they went off I could hear a click coming from around the glove compartment. Also, when my friend and I tried to jump it it would click and sometimes it would start but it would die right away and not stay running. Is there an explanation to this stuff or could it be just the battery?

Tom,

Sounds like you had a strap fail inside the battery. This has happened twice to my '99.

You will need to replace the battery if you haven't already. DO NOT GO WITH ANOTHER DEALER\STOCK BATTERY. As I siad above, I've had this happen twice with the stock battery in the last four years.

Good Luck

this doesnt have anything to do with a batery but i have a 93 5.2 dakota tahat is poping and banging like the spark plug wires are crossed but they are not. the cam is only about a 178 so it is not that "hot" it is a turbo cam.
It runs bad enough that I can't shift it into drive with out it dieing and it won't run in less it is reved above about 1800 rpm.
As for as I know the computer just has a factory timming setting and I don't know how to get around that if that is the problem.
I put new springs in it with about .570 lift and i have a new timing chain and gears and it is set on the middle mark. But it probably doesnt have anything to do with that. Any body know what is going on???
