Subject: Engine revs to 1000+ rmps IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 Dodge Dak V8 automatic 4x4 with a 4.7. When I start it, without having my foot on the gas pedal, the engine will rev itself to around 2000 rpms then it will drop back down to 750 then back up to 1500, back down to 1000 and so on. It also, revs itself between 750 and 1200 rmps when it is in either park or nuetral (doesn't seem to be as bad in drive-unless a/c is on, but will still rev spuratically). This in turn makes the shifting to drive very rough not to mention the down shifting when coming to a stop. I have brought it into the dealership at least 3x's and to an independent shop once or twice. No one can seem to fix the issue. The TB has been cleaned several times and it seemed to work but never for longer than a week before the problem returns. PLEASE let me know if you have any answers to this issue, because no one else seems to have any!!!

Message: Bad IAS? TPS? Programming? Is this a recent problem? It ran properly before? Mileage? Does it run at a stable speed when under way?

Message: I really appreciate the reply. The mileage on the truck is about 75k and it has had this problem now for about 6+ months. Before this all started it was running great! The only problem I had with it, was I had to change a battery. I just can't seem to get past this one though!! As for the stable speed under way, mostly, but it is harder to tell when under load (empty truck in gear) sometimes I think I feel it when I let off the gas at certain speeds. Oh, by the way, I am just a do it yourselfer, can you please explain, ISA and TPS? I appreciate your suggestions.

Message: I was going to say it needs a new pcm since it started after you replaced the battery and that you damaged the pcm/ electric system-- but since you say it gets better after a tb cleaning- I am going with a vaccuum leak around the intake manifold-- I understand that the early years of the 4.7 had a problem around the intake manifold related t leaking and oil coking up to craete a engine sludge problem- get a vacuum draw down test done to determine any leaking--

Message: I think gen1 meant IAC - idle air control. That and the TPS (throttle position sensor) are mounted on your throttle body. My SWAG (scientific wild ass guess) would be to better clean or replace the IAC since it seemed to respond somewhat to cleaning.

Message: Thanks guys! I think I will start with the vaccum leak and then work my way down the list if that doesn't fix the problem. I am just ready to find the solution. I will let you all if any of them work. Gen1, I know what you mean about all these letters!! Thanks again all.
