Subject: Dyno Results after HO Cams installed

With HO Cams:
HP 212.2@4400rpm
TQ 285.8@3400rpm
Previous Dyno before HO Cams:
HP 200.8@4200rpm
TQ 259.4@3700rpm
Peak gains are: 11.4HP and 26.4TQ.
Averaged gains between 3200rpm to 4700rpm are: 13.59HP and 28.63TQ
However when comparing the two charts at 3400rpm, the HO cams were making 26.3HP and 40.7TQ more at that particular rpm. Very noticable difference in the graphs also. I'm real pleased with the results, I'm just not sure if I want the HO Intake though.
Hope this helps someone if you are trying to decide if you should get the cams or not.

I'm glad someone else tried the Flowmaster 70, FLDak. I had one on my '92 5.2 and now my '01 4.7. Your improvement numbers compare favorably with KRC's cams.

There may be several of you who missed this post on dyno results of the HO cams swap. Most impressive are the huge hp/tq numbers at 3400 rpm: 26.3/40.7. This is with the ORIGINAL 4.7 intake manifold, not the 2003-up/HO intake. I kept the stock 2001 IM with my HO cams, to enjoy the low-end torque benefit. '01 4.7 5-spd 3:92; homebrew alloy air intake w/stock box K&N 6" Fernco; Flow 70 w/2 1/2" duals; true 68mm TB; Bosch 4118.

Hey, Kowalski! I've run Bosch Platinum for years. My old '92 5.2 ran the original 2-prong +2's until the +4's (4-prong) came along. I've used the +4's for about 35K now on my '01 4.7. No gap needed at all; just anti-sieze the threads and roll 'em in. What you will notice right away, compared to the stock Champions anyway, is easier starts and very smooth idle. I noticed a slight 1/2 gallon better MPG, but you can usually credit that to a normal plug change. One plus was the plug change interval. On my old 5.2, I would go 50K between changes. The plugs were in great condition even after that mileage. I can't swallow some of the negative platinum B.S. related to the 4.7 that used to appear on this board.

Wal, depends on your definition. According to my def'n, the 4.7 is not a DOHC.

But, it does have a single OH cam per cylinder bank.

I haven't had the same luck with the Bosch plugs. I installed the +4's in my '00 4.7 QC at around 10K miles and after about 3K miles I started getting a missfire and/or an unstable idle. I replaced them with NGK V-powers(usually my first choice for any vehicle)and it never ran better. I still use the NGK's now at 75K miles. I've read that the 4.7L(along with other cars that have the same ignition system)doesn't like platinums.

In general though, I haven't had ANY luck with Bosch plugs lately. I had a Sunfire(commuter car)that required platinums and the Bosch plugs made the car run rough. I had the same problem with my Contour(also a commuter car). Both cars I replaced the Bosches with Autolight double platinums and smooth running was restored. What gives? Bosch used to make great plugs! I'm not the only one that has noticed this same problem with Bosch plugs lately.

Thanks, ok Lurkin. That is SOHC. With DOHC motorcycle engines I have done intake cam swaps and left the exhaust alone, or done both and degreed differently, so that you preserve the low end and still get more top end. You don't get all of the top end power, but you don't miss it and you get to keep your low/mid. Sounds like it wouldn't apply here though; you'd need 4 cams to be DOHC.

FLDak, I for one, appreciate the dyno results you supplied. My Dak is a daily driver, and I am using the stock pre-HO intake manifold (like your 2002) with HO cams, so your results are particularly noteworthy in my case. We may even see a "retro-mod" someday, where the owners of heavier 4.7 Daks seeking low-end torque revert to the 2000-2002 IM instead of the "stock" HO 2003-up IM. So...thanks!

212 is good hp. You are prob compairing flywheel hp to
rear wheel hp which stock is around 190 give or take 5
hp. Dodge rates it with flywheel hp which is like 230 or
235.
