Subject: Optima Red Top positive terminal IP: Logged
Message: I've installed an Optima Red Top battery on my 97 5.2 but I can't tighten the positive battery cable any tighter than it already is and the cable is still somewhat loose. The negative cable is fine.
It seems that the Optima positive terminal is a little smaller than the original battery. Any suggestion besides replacing the battery cable? Can I wrap some kind of a clamp or metal piece around the positive terminal to take up the slack before I tighten it. I really don't want to go this route but I don't want to replace the cable either. Thanks!

Message: If you want to do it the right way, just cutt off the old end and go to a parts house and get a new one, this way you still use your old cable. Its a snap to put on a new one, all you have to do is strip back some of your old cables black covering and just clamp the new one on. Wouldnt take you more than 5 minutes instead of trying to put something on the terminal so you can tighten the old one up....

Message: Cal,
Thanks - you're right and that's what I'll do. It doesn't make sense that the terminals would be smaller as they should all be standard but that's life.
