Message: Another question, before I order my 2002 Dakota
I am trying to decide if it is worth it to order the 8 speaker package(335.00 Can) as opposed to the 4 speader. I have read they are not very good speakers, but the stereo is fine. It seems a little odd to have a speaker in the door frame,(wing window area). Any input is much appreciated. Thanks.

Message: iffer, I have the stock radio (am/fm, single-play cd) and it sounds great IMO.

Message: Get the 8 speaker system. It's much better. And get the steering wheel mounted controls. It seemed extravagant to me when I got my Ram, but it really is a nice feature. Unless you're paying cash, the better stereo and controls will only cost a few bucks a month in financing anyway.

Message: I OWN A 01 QUAD CAB WITH THE INFINITY SYSTEM. AND ONE WITH OUT. BROUGHT THE 2 TRUCKS TO THE LOCAL STEREO SHOP TO HAVE THE BASE SYSTEM UPGRADED TO SOUND LIKE THE INFINITY SYSTEM. THE SALESMEN WENT IN AND OUT AND ALL OVER MY TRUCK INSISTING I HAD A HIDDEN AMP OR POWERED SUB BECAUSE IT SOUNDED TO GOOD TO BE STOCK. SO IF THAT HELPS MAKE YOU MAKE A CHOICE. I ACTUALLY BOUGHT C.D.'S TO LISTEN TO IN THE TRUCK.
ONLY PROBLEM IS I HAVE TO TURN IT DOWN ONCE IN AWHILE TO HEAR THE GIBSON TALK TO ME. ROCK ON!!

Message: The infinity is VERY good for factory. If you ever get tweeters mounted in a car they usually put them in the door, it is a very normal place to put them. All my friends thought it had a sub too when I first got it. Very little that it can't handle.

Message: Two minor complaints about the infinity in my truck:
1. I can't get a direct connect CD changer for it because the top stereo (in dash single CD and casette) offered in the dakota doesn't have the CD changer controls built in. To get a CD changer I either have to get one that plays through an FM station or get a whole new head unit. That's not a problem with the other stereo offered that has just the casette player...it has built in CD changer controls.
2. I'm also not real thrilled with the joystick-style balance and fader control...I'd prefer a knob or little sliders. The joystick is next to impossible to operate while the vehicle is moving.
I'm not sure if either one of those things is a problem with the 2001-2002 stereos since they changed the design of the dashboard & stereo.
I agree with the others on the sound...the infinity system really does sound great to my ears. It won't rattle the license plates off, but it sounds great. So even though I can't get a CD changer, I'm not going to swap it for anything else.

Message: Dan Gruber- the joystick problem is gone in my 2002. It may have been changed before the 2002 year though. I didn't like it either in my 99. The infinity system is good imo. The bass is so strong in my current truck that I have it turned way down to about 50% on the slide. even that is too much some times and I have a country station on?!!

Message: Iffer,
Spend about $3500 on a Kenwood KDC-717 deck, Alpine MRD-752 five channel amp, running Diamond Audio 6.25 inch seperates and Diamond audio 6.25 inch coaxial rear fills, on four of the amp's channels and a Kicker Solabaric (square) 10 inch sub on the fifth channel. Make sure and protect your ride with a Clifford Inteliguard alarm system. My wife wonders why I sit in the garage in my truck and jam to Metalica and Tool. It sounds unbelievable, that's why.

Message: Thanks so much, you have all been so helpful.
I think I will stick to the stock version with the 4 speakers/cd, no cassette. It will beat what I am listening to now, in my old Ford.

Message: I’m deciding on which after market 1.5 DIN
AM/FM/CD receiver to buy to replace the one
that came in my 01' CC. The standard
equipment radio is the worst radio I can
remember.
I live in an area that would be considered
"border line" fringe but the radios in my 91
Toyota XTRA Cab and my 99 Audi A4 (with no
outside antenna)'are much better. My dealer
let me try another truck and that radio was just
as bad.
Any suggestions for the replacement?
