Subject: 1991 318 Performance? IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys. What could I do to my 1991 318 engine to get some performance? Most of the perf. stuff I see is for 97 and newer. The engine is starting to get quite a few (185k) miles on it, so I may just drop a new one in, can I put a 318 magnum in it? Or maybe the 5.6L mag? What changes would that require (harness, mounts, etc?). Any use in trying to put a manual tranny in it? It's an auto right now. BTW, anybody have trouble with their fuel gauge going to empty just after a fill-up, then going to full after 40-or-so miles of driving? Sounds like the float, but I'll ask here before I tear into things to find the cause.
Thanks in advance,
Alex

Message: to add more performance just get the usual stuff like cap, rotor, filters, plugs and wires. then you should go for something along the lines of hedders, dual exhaust, or maybe if you can find one a race chip. i have the same problem with the fuel gauge (except mine doesn't work at all). i have a 91' 318. make sure to replace stuff like pcv valve and egr valve. this will help engine run cooler and better.

Message: Let's hear it for '91 pre-mag owners! I thought I was the only one left. Now I know there are at least two others.
