Subject: Fuel Rail Corrosion IP: Logged
Message: I have a '97 with the 5.2 L. About 2 years ago my check engine light came on for multiple cylinder misfire and a misfire in #2 cylinder. I pulled the tank to check for debris or water, added new fuel pump and replaced fuel filter. I also pulled the injectors and found that the inlet screens we dirty and some completely clogged, and there was a sign of some type of fouling on #2 injector that looked like dried battery acid (I know that's not what it was but that's what it looked like). The Dodge dealer told me that the fuel rail was made out of a cheap quality material and was known for corrosion over time. Well the check engine light came on again today and it's for the exact same thing. So what I was wondering is if anyone knows what could cause this or if there is an aftermarket fuel rail that is made to prevent this from happening a third time. And if anyone can explain the stuff on the #2 injector. Also I did exchange the #2 injector with the #4 just to verify that it was a cylinder issue and not a injector issue.
