duner I remember a post on moparchat were you got 10hp from a fuel rail cooler. how does it work any pictures? did you just rap the rails in some tuding for water to run threw?

Im thinking of getting a fuel cooler(one of those small radiator things, and mounting it in front of the radiator with some water sprayers.

does that sound like a good idea to you? the cooler alone is supposed to drop fuel temp 60 degrees so with a fan and some squirters I should get an increase.

My fuel rail cooling system used the AC system to cool water that was circulated thru tubing to cool the fuel rails. The tubing was wrapped around the AC drier canister. When the AC is on that gets very cold. The tubing ran against the fuel rails and both the tubing and fuel rails were wrapped in insulation. I just used a cheap fuel pump to recirculate it all.

I'm not sure what you mean by the small radiator things? I wouldn't mount anything fuel related out in front of the radiator. A stray rock or even a minor accident could result in a nasty fuel fire if there was fuel running thru it. Instead of spraying water, just pump it around the fuel rails.

the radiator/fuel cooler they sell in summit for like 39.00 they look like power steering coolers.

thats a good point about having fuel by the radiator! thank god theres forums i can ask questions on before I try things.

thats the same kind of Idea I was thinking only I was gonna use a resovoir I could put ice water in. do you run the ac at the track? or when you want go power? Im just tryig to figure out how the cooler cools before a run or when you want power.

does the ac turn off right when you cut the switch or does it cycle for a few minutes?

For trips to the track I built a "cool can". Basically just a big coil of tubing that is inside a canister that I put ice into. I would just disconnect the portion of the system that wrapped around the AC drier and re-route the flow to the cool can.

I don't run the AC at the track although I was using the AC system for the last dyno pulls. I let the truck idle with the AC on for a while to make sure the engine was actually very warm and the cooling system very cold. I just switched the AC off for the pull.

I just used 3/8" copper tubing for it all..... from Home Depot with exception of short rubber hose chunks to connect the major parts together.

thanks, for all the help just a few more questions. do you think a cooler would be less efficant with vacuam line or silicone vacuam line rapped around the fuel rails etc? do you think theres any adverse affects of simply rerouting the windshield washer lines through the cooler and back to the tank? than all I'd have to do is drop some ice in the windsheild washer resovoir and wire an on off switch for the pump.

I'm trying to do this without removing the fuel rails if I can help it. how hard are they to remove and how? just remove the line and injectors and thats it.

No.... you don't have to remove the fuel rails. It does make it easier to get it all in together if you unplug and remove the coil packs for the installation. Just make the copper tubing run on top of the fuel rails. Vaccuum or silicone lines won't be nearly as efficient at transferring the heat from the fuel rails. It needs to be a metal to metal contact with all of it insulated together. I don't think the windshield washer pump and lines would flow enough liquid to make much of a difference. The pump also needs to run nearly continuously to keep the fuel rails cooled. Using the washer reservoir would probably work slick if you could flow enough liquid thru it but you need to be able to get the flow volume up to maintain cooling.

ok now I get it for some reason I thought you coiled the tubing all the way around the fuel rail. thats why I thought I had to remove them. lol

I'm gonna try the windshield washer pump first, then upgrade later, if it doesn't work I'm trying to keep cost down.

I found another source for a pump also..... from the junkyard turbo emai list.

Go to Walmart and buy a 12v bait aireator pump. They're supposedly about $20.00.

I haven't checked on this yet but it sounds reasonable.

hi i have a 2000 dakota and my washer fluid keeps freezing up under the shroud where it ts off to the hoses that go to the sprayers. there seems to be a regulater in the t. im sure that this needs to be there if i want to keep the washer fluid on my windsheild and not on the top of the trucks roof. how can i keep it from freezing up. i am useing a deicer fluid to try and stop this but does nt seem to work. if you can get back to me would be appr. thank you. frezin t
