Subject: transfer case ? IP: Logged
Message: Have a 98 DAK ext cab 4x4 w/134k. I recently had my transmission serviced and they noticed a small leak in my front transfer case seal. The fluid was very low and the hust filled it back up. What does it entail to change the seal on the transfer case or would I be better off having a garage do it for me. Also what oil do you reccomend putting back inot the case once it's fixed????????

Message: Never done it before but it can't be that bad. Go read the procedure on it in the Haynes manual at your local auto parts dealer and see if your capabilities are up to the task.

Message: Its not hard at all...Pull the front driveshaft, pull the yoke, remove the old seal with a seal puller or large screwdriver, install the old seal with the appropriate sized socket, install the yoke and driveshaft and your done. Use the same fluid that you use in your tranny. I use Dextron

Message: I have had mine rebuilt at 100000 and 140000 mi.
It still sounds bad. It dont leak now. The drive train is the bad part of this model along with the front end, from what I hear.
