Well. I bought a 2002 Dodge Dakota with the 4.7 liter motor, 4x4 with all the options. SLT plus package. Now so far I had a vaccumm leak / warped rotors (20,000 miles) and the power locks broke once already. Everything was fine with the warranty except the warped rotors. Oh yeh and the foglight switch went bad. All under 20,000 miles. Now it is currently on 23,000 miles and I notice the transmission is shifting weird from 1st to 2nd. Now it is only doing this at slow speeds with low RPM. It seems like it just slides to second rough. You can feel it pretty bad. I have read many reports on this, at this forum, but none are at low rpms. Every other gear goes fine, and when I am at normal speeds it is perfect. But when I go slow (cruise around 10-20) it clanks into second, almost like it doesn't know what gear to use 1st or 2nd. Please if anyone can help me. I don't feel like taking it back to the dealer, but it is under warranty so if I must i will. But is this normal? I love my dodge, but this is getting a little ridiculous. It seems like i spend more time at the dealer then I do actually in the truck. I wish they would have put some more time and quality in this truck. It has so much potential. They even killed the extended cab door opening.. WTF is that. I mean just because they now offer a 4 door, doesn't mean to go cheap on the extended cab. So anyway, back to the transmission. I dont want to take it to the dealer if nothing is wrong. Because then when they put it bck together something will be wrong.

Don't fix it if it isn't broken

Thanks for any input..

Steve

There is a serious problem developing in your trans. Don't ignor it or you will regret it. If you think your dealer isn't servicing your truck right than take it to another dealer if possible. But get it checked out ASAP. I've replaced several trans lately for the same problem, and not only in the dakotas. This is a warrentee issue and can be solved.

Also, bu taking it to the dealership early, you are creating a record.

I had my gf take her car to the dealership 3 times for the same AC problem. The dealer never found anything wrong. The car's warrenty then went out. The dealer was able to then find the problem. Surprise! Since we had established a history of this problem over the past year, the dealer had to cough up the money for a new compressor and filter.

A similar story happened with a bad bering in my friend's Firebird. He got a new engine.

Create a history on problems... and keep your paperwork. Dealerships tend to loose some papers.

Well, wouldn't the dealer get paid any way if it's still under warrentee?
